Everyone Is Dead

Captain Valentino / Episode 1

It was supposed to be a simple mission. It got very complicated very fast. A mission failed before it even began.

The mission was the final possible attempt to preserve humanity after the war decimated the earth. The team consisted of five others and myself. We were sent to space and there we would wait in a deep sleep, suspended animation.

But the machines failed us, some of the most advanced machines ever made by human hands had failed. They were supposed to wake us up on the 9th of August 2097. Instead it woke me up on the 10th. And my crew members didn’t wake up at all. According to the digital scanners of the sleeping pods, the machines were tampered with. Sabotaged.

I couldn’t believe it. Everyone was dead. Everyone but me. This was not a one man mission. Which meant, the mission was over. Decades wasted. And with my death, humanity would see it’s end.

However, I that fateful day when I take my last breath, I was going to leave a video entry daily. Perhaps no one would ever see them, but they would help me feel less lonely.

“This is Captain Valentino of the Astronova 7. The mission… is a failure; it required at least five individuals. And my entire team… is dead. Someone, or something sabotaged the sleeping pods. Therefore, by m own order, my new mission is to find out what or who that was. And I will find out, that’s my promise to their memory,” I glanced at a photo taken the day of our launch. “Captain Valentino, recording entry 1, longing out.”
