ARTIST STATEMENT
In a world of fleeting moments, I harness the power of photography and AI to capture unseen stories through a unique lens, weaving them into timeless tales. My photography is a symphony where technology and artistry are harmonised, with digital image manipulation composing each note on the orchestra of reality. Stories are deeply engrained in many cultures. So my love of storytelling is not by chance, it’s the amalgamation of a legacy that began before my time. I leverage this past to create images that could hopefully reshape the future of visual storytelling and South African photography. Incorporating AI into my process allows me to push the boundaries of traditional photography, enabling me to transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary visual experiences. My journey is continuously defined by endless exploration and proving the sky is not the limit.

ARTIST BIO
Dumo Xaba is a creative artist and storyteller of both visual and written stories. Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, he fell in love with the arts at a young age, and is now an author, poet, photographer and filmmaker, having begun his journey in the photo and video industry as a teenager. Xaba spent the majority of his high school career unaware of what he wanted to pursue till he had what he has described as “a crazy epiphany” to become a filmmaker. Since then he’s tried all he could and learnt all he has to sharpen him for the film and TV industry. He eventually studied the Bachelor of Applied Arts in Commercial Photography – then later the Bachelor of Applied Arts: Honours in Photography – at the Durban University of Technology, which started a different path from his envisioned plan, but the ultimate destination remained the same. He has described his photographic work as “almost childish in a way” of “colouring outside the lines” because of his manipulative approach to images to tell the story, and he hopes for his work to show people that anything is possible. Xaba has published a number of novels, including A Dubious Alliance and Court Affairs: Lies & Allies, as well as two poetry anthologies, such as The Legacy and Poetic Type of Love: Uthando Lwami.
